Ha scontato 10 anni della sua condanna all’ergastolo, ma dal mese di dicembre del 2011 potrebbe ottenere la libertà condizionale.
Ken Murdock, potrebbe presto lasciare la prigione insieme ad esponenti di spicco della mafia italo-canadese, come Vito Rizzuto, la cui scarcerazione prevista per il 2012, potrebbe avvenire già quest’anno.
Mentre in Italia la mafia si avvale di uomini legati alle famiglie, per commettere omicidi, negli stati del Nord America e in Canada in particolar modo, è abbastanza frequente l’utilizzo di killer professionisti esterni all’organizzazione criminale che vengono pagati per portare a termine le loro missioni di morte.
Ken Murdock, 47 anni, professione killer, è un uomo sorprendentemente educato, che parla del proprio “lavoro” come di una professione seria e altamente qualificata.
Per lui non si tratta di un qualsiasi lavoro. Ha un suo “codice deontologico” da seguire. Delle regole che vanno rispettate e alle quali non è mai contravvenuto.
Prima regola, quella di non uccidere mai le vittime dinanzi ai familiari. “Non fare quel genere di lavoro di fronte alla moglie o ai figli”, ha detto in un’intervista telefonica rilasciata al British Columbia.
Narra nei dettagli i suoi interventi, come un qualsiasi chirurgo potrebbe raccontare le operazioni effettuate, con distacco professionale, quasi a compiacersi del risultato ottenuto nel rispetto delle regole deontologiche autoimpostesi.
“ Quando uccisi Carmen Barillaro, mafioso di Niagara Falls, il 23 luglio 1997, attesi per ore nelle vicinanze della sua lussuosa casa, fin quando la moglie ed i figli non decisero di uscire per andare a fare shopping. Mi sono seduto per strada con un binocolo. Ho aspettato che i ragazzi andassero via. Ho aspettato che anche la moglie uscisse. Non volevo che ci fosse qualcuno in casa”.
Murdock apprese poi che erano andati a comprare dei regali per Barillaro, perché il giorno dopo era il suo 53° compleanno.
Un’altra esecuzione di mafia di Murdock, quella del boss di Hamilton, John Papalia il 31 Maggio 1997.
Murdock dice di aver sparato a Barillaro e Papalia da vicino con una pistola per garantire che non ci sono spettatori innocenti tra lui e il suo bersaglio. Inoltre così, non c’era il rischio di sbagliare la vittima.
Nel suo minuzioso racconto, spiega anche il perché non ha mai fatto ricorso ad attentati dinamitardi.
“Le schegge di una bomba, nel 1995, colpirono, uccidendolo, un ragazzo di 11 anni, che non era la vittima predestinata. Non credo nelle bombe, no. Non mi piace. Non è questo il modo di fare le cose“.
il killer inoltre, narra di come non ha mai voluto utilizzare i modi adoperati da altri, che fingendosi amici delle vittime avevano gioco facile nell’eliminarle.
“Prendiamo ad esempio Paolo Violi, invitato a giocare a carte in un club di Montreal nel 1978. Un sicario della famiglia Rizzuto era in attesa per sparare. Per me questo è squallido. Pensi di essere tra amici, ma lì nessuno ti ama. La prossima cosa che sai è che sei morto. “
Non poteva mancare la narrazione del primo contratto di morte.
Fu nel 1985, quando l’obiettivo era Salvatore Alaimo, 53 anni, che doveva soldi per debiti di gioco alla famiglia mafiosa dei Musitano.. Una volta che la famiglia aveva deciso che Alaimo non aveva intenzione di pagare, la soluzione era quella di ucciderlo per inviare un messaggio ad altri giocatori sfortunati.
Ma quel contratto d’omicidio non gli piaceva e così lui indugiava. Una volta ha aspettato con un fucile mitragliatore in macchina, fuori da un club del centro sociale Hamilton, frequentato da Alaimo. Quando Alaimo si avviò con la macchina, Murdock non riuscì a tirare il grilletto.
La volta successiva che fu inviato ad uccidere Alaimo, venne accompagnato da altri due uomini.. Questa volta non poteva semplicemente non fare il lavoro.
“Il tentativo di tiro-all’auto è andato orribilmente storto“ ha detto Murdock. “la mitragliatrice Sten è notoriamente imprecisa, ma io in realtà non stavo cercando di sparargli. Stavo cercando di sparare attorno a lui . . . “.
Murdock dice di aver lavorato per Pat Musitano a causa di una promessa fatta al padre di Pat Domenico, dopo aver appreso che Domenico aveva problemi di cuore ed era in pericolo di vita. “Ho promesso di prendermi cura dei suoi figli. Questo è stato il più stupido errore che io abbia mai fatto”.
“Sono stato sempre pronto per un amico a risolvere ogni problema. Adesso non più. Questo era il mio problema allora. “
Torna con la mente a quei giorni, alle piste di cocaina che lo aiutavano a far fronte allo “stress da lavoro“.
Un pensiero consola Murdock. Una mezza dozzina degli omicidi commissionatigli, non li portò a termine.
Qualche flash in meno nella mente, che non va ad aggiungersi alle immagini e ad i suoni che ancora lo ossessionano, anche se – sostiene Murdoch -, alcune delle vittime erano anche loro assassini.
Nonostante ciò, i ricordi molte notti tornano in mente e suoni ed immagini, sembrano ancora reali come se tutto stesse accadendo in quel preciso istante.
Una nota curiosa: l’uccisione di John Papalia, nel 1997, portò paradossalmente a critiche sugli aspetti etico-teologici dei metodi messi in atto da Murdock, per portare a termine i suoi contratti.
La Chiesa cattolica negò infatti a Papalia il funerale religioso, poiché essendo stato ucciso con un colpo alla nuca, lo stesso non poteva aver avuto il tempo di pentirsi del suo stile di vita criminale e di mettere in pace la sua anima con Dio.
Da qui le critiche a Murdock, che se gli avesse sparato standogli di fronte, avrebbe consentito alla vittima di rendersi conto di quanto stava accadendo e chiedere perdono dei propri peccati.
Murdock, dal canto suo, sottolinea che era un sicario, non un teologo, e che Papalia sarebbe stato pronto a reagire, non a pregare, se fosse stato sparato di fronte.
“Fare la pace con Dio? Non credo che sarebbe la prima cosa che gli sarebbe passata per la testa “, spiega Murdock.
Eh sì, l’America puritana, dalle grandi contraddizioni, è anche questa…
Ma quando nel 2012, o anche prima, Vito Rizzuto lascerà il carcere, cosa accadrà? E in Sicilia, dove la mafia non si fa certo scrupolo di uccidere gli innocenti?
