La 33ème édition du festival « Banlieues Bleues » a commencé le vendredi 18 mars à l’Espace 1789 à Saint-Ouen (93). Il se terminera le vendredi 15 Avril à l’Embarcadère à AUBERVILLIERS (93) sur des rythmes « afro-funk » et « Vaudou beats ».
Cette année, ce festival nous permettra, comme les fois précédentes, d’aiguiser notre curiosité musicale. La programmation variée et ouverte à divers genres : calypso, funk, jazz, soul, et tant d’autres, fera la part belle à la nouvelle génération française et à des révélations nationales et internationales. Quelques vedettes sont également invitées comme Meshell NDEGEOCELLO, Calypso ROSE, Matana ROBERTS, David KRAKAUER, Biréli LAGRENE et Chucho VALDES. Il s’agit donc, vous l’aurez compris, d’une édition sans frontières territoriales et stylistiques, tendant à un équilibre entre musiciens connus et confirmés et la nouvelle génération.
Il faut saluer, une fois de plus, le formidable travail de l’équipe de « Banlieues Bleues », d’autant plus méritoire en cette période inquiétante à bien des égards, pour proposer un évènement musical de qualité « tous publics ».
Pour le concert d’ouverture, les organisateurs ont pris le pari non pas de faire appel à des « vedettes » mais de programmer des artistes de premier plan de la nouvelle scène française. Pari réussi vu l’affluence du public.
En première partie, c’est la trompettiste Airelle BESSON qui s’est produite avec son nouveau projet en quartet. Cette formation originale, sans basse mais avec une voix, a interprété des compositions de son leader alternant mélodies éthérées et rythmes percutants. Airelle BESSON a fait apprécier, une fois de plus, la pureté de sa sonorité mais je l’ai surtout appréciée dans le registre percussif. Isabel SÖRLING, vocaliste suédoise, ne m’a pas pleinement convaincue et je la préfère lorsqu’elle se produit avec le groupe « BRIBES ». Les deux autres membres du quartet, Benjamin MOUSSAY aux claviers, et Fabrice MOREAU à la batterie, ont brillé par leur jeu pertinent quelque soit le rythme des compositions. Dommage que ce set se soit terminé sans rappel.
En deuxième partie, il nous a été proposé le « régional de l’étape », le « RED STAR Orchestra » (18 musiciens) dirigé par Johane MYRAN, avec, pour invité, le génial et protéiforme Thomas de POURQUERY, voix. Ce concert de lancement de leur album « BROAD WAYS » nous a invités à une nouvelle écoute de standards du jazz ultra connus. Avec un son purement jazz et des arrangements de très grande qualité, la relecture s’est illustrée par des détournements du meilleur effet « surfant » sur différents courants du jazz des années 50 à nos jours. Que dire de la version déconcertante de « MY WAY » qui a enthousiasmé le public qui l’a réclamée à l’occasion du rappel ! Quant à Thomas de POURQUERY à la présence scénique impressionnante, il s’est fait tantôt crooner tantôt « soul man » et il a dévoilé une nouvelle facette, surprenante, de son immense talent.
Il ne reste plus qu’à espérer que ce brillant concert donne le ton à cette nouvelle édition du festival.
