Dopo la rivolta in Libia, soffocata da Gheddafi e le sue truppe, il Consiglio di sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite ha autorizzato l’azione militare. Nel marzo 19a forze americane ed europee, hanno colpito le forze del colonnello Gheddafi con un impeto tale che non si vedeva nel mondo arabo da dopo la guerra in Iraq.
Nel tentativo di fermare l‘attacco, Gheddafi ha offerto il cessate il fuoco poche ore dopo. Il presidente Obama ha ordinato che attacchi contro i civili libici smettessero immediatamente, altrimenti Gheddafi si sarebbe trovato ad affrontare l’azione militare degli Stati Uniti e gli alleati europei e arabi. Dal momento che gli attacchi aerei e di terra sono ricominciati il giorno dopo, sappiamo che Gheddafi non ha buone intenzioni.
Perché qualcuno dovrebbe credere a Gheddafi quando dice che durante gli attacchi sono stati uccisi civili? Ha ucciso il suo stesso popolo pur di rimanere al potere. Lui non si fermato neanche dopola minaccia degli Stati Uniti e del Consiglio delle Nazioni Unite. Gheddafi non è un uomo di parola.
Secondo il Pentagono, la capacità di riprendere le azioni offensive da parte delle forze di Gheddafi, sarà minima. Tuttavia Gheddafi potrebbe rispondere ricorrendo ad attacchi terroristici al di fuori della Libia.

After the uprising in Libya was squelched by Qaddafi and his troops the United Nation’s Security Council authorized military action. On March 19th American and European forces struck Colonel Qaddafi‘s forces on a scale not seen in the Arab world since the Iraq war.
After two nights of strikes against Qaddafi’s forces, American and European nation’s rejected the claims by Libya that civilians had been killed. Clearly this is an attempt by Qaddafi to appeal to the more genteel nature of American’s and Europeans to stop the strikes. Considering the Arab League asked the United Nations Security Council to implement a no fly zone over Libya in hopes of halting Qaddafi’s attacks on his own people, I fail to see how he would be concerned about civilians. The “rebels” and the Security Council are taking all measures to protect civilians.
In an attempt to stop the strike, Qaddafi offered cease fire just hours after the no flight zone was implemented. President Obama ordered attacks against Libyan civilians stop or Qaddafi would face military action by the United States and European and Arab allies. Since the air and land strikes started the following day, we know that Qaddafi does not have good intentions.
Why should anyone believe Qaddafi when he says that civilians have been killed? He was killing his own people to remain in power. He would not stop even after threatened by the U.S. and U.N. Security council. Qaddafi is not a man of his word.
According to the Pentagon, Qaddafi’s forces “possess little will or capability to resume offensive operations.” However they are also reporting that Qaddafi may use surrogates to launch terrorist attacks outside of Libya in response to the air attacks. I hope that the United States and the Allied forces are able to remove Qaddafi and ensure the world’s safety as well as allow the people of Libya the type of lifestyle they are so desperately fighting for.
