Non sono tutte rose e fiori negli Stati Uniti, scrive Carisa che c’informa di come il Governo americano, già alla mezzanotte di oggi, potrebbe decidere di bloccare le erogazioni statali (finanziamenti, ma anche gli stipendi dei dipendenti della pubblica amministrazione), qualora non venisse approvato il bilancio.
Repubblicani e democratici non sono d’accordo su dove effettuare tagli di bilancio.
A rischio, servizi indispensabili quali la sicurezza della nazione.
Infatti, i Democratici vorrebbero fosse ridotti i fondi al Dipartimento della Difesa, a partire dallo stipendio dei militari, che è bene ricordare, impegnati attualmente in parecchie missioni all’estero.
I Repubblicani, dal canto loro, vorrebbero ridurre gli stanziamenti in favore alle tematiche ambientali e il finanziamento per la lotta a favore e contro l’aborto.
A Baghdad, il segretario alla Difesa Robert M. Gates ha già dichiarato che le truppe non potranno ricevere i loro stipendi.
Una situazione potenzialmente devastante per le molte famiglie di militari, che spesso sono monoreddito, visto che per il coniuge di un soldato, a causa dei frequenti trasferimenti a cui sottoposta l’intera famiglia, è veramente difficile trovare e mantenere un posto di lavoro.
Un blocco del Governo, che in un momento come questo sarebbe devastante per l’economia, dopo che faticosamente era iniziata una fase di recupero.
Spesso – afferma Carisa – banche, assistenza sanitaria e di viaggio, nonché le scuole e molti altri servizi, dipendono da finanziamenti o agevolazioni da parte del governo federale.
Il congelamento delle erogazioni, potrebbe significare enormi disagi economici per i cittadini americani e nuovi momenti di crisi economica.
Un pericolo, che solo il Senato, il Congresso e l’Amministrazione Presidenziale, potrebbero scongiurare e che – si augura la Frisby – prima di tagliare gli stipendi dei dipendenti della Pubblica Amministrazione, ben farebbero a rivedere le spese sostenute per il mantenimento degli apparati politici.
Il non raggiungere un accordo tra Democratici e Repubblicani, equivarrebbe a darsi intenzionalmente la zappa sui piedi.
Un colpo all’economia, che interesserebbe nell’immediato gli Stati Uniti, ma che a lungo termine potrebbe influenzare l’economia globale.
U.S. Budget
It’s not all roses in the United States. The government is threatening a shut-down after midnight on Friday if the budget does not pass. Republicans and Democrats cannot agree on where they want budget cuts to happen. A shut down would mean that pay for government employees does not get processed. This could affect security and mail delivery among other things.
Democrats want to see it happen in the Department of Defense, meaning that the people protecting the United States will not get the funding needed to continue their protection. It has also been proposed that military members take a cut in pay as well. Republicans want to see cuts happen in environmental issues and the funding in the fight for and against abortion.
In Baghdad, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates told troops that they may not receive their next paychecks because of the shutdown. This could potentially be devastating for many military families who live pay check to pay check. A soldiers’ pay is relatively small for what they do and the risks they take. The families also make many great sacrifices and often the soldier is the main source of income due to the frequent transfers, it is hard for the spouse to maintain a job.
A shutdown like this would be devastating to the economy as well that is finally starting to recover. Shutting down the government could cause harm to the already struggling economy making it worse in the long run. Often banks, health care and travel as well as schools depend on some funding or backing by the federal government. If that is removed that could mean huge cuts in Americans spending and putting back into the economy.
I would think that a nation such as the Unites States that often has been admired and emulated by other countries would be able to figure out budgets and spending. I would especially hope that it could figure out a budget before shutting down and affecting the millions of people that depend on their pay checks coming from the government. I would expect the Senate, Congress and the Presidential Administration to take a cut in pay before taking it from their military and defense. As I see it, by not coming to an agreement a government shut down would be like a person intentionally shooting himself in the foot. The overall economic hit that would be taken as a result would affect the United States immediately as well as long term. The affects of that would reach beyond the borders of the United States.
